Queenstown: Lake Whakatipu Boat Trip
589 ReviewsExperience the stunning scenery and hidden spots of Lake Whakatipu aboard a modern catamaran. Enjoy a relaxing cruise from Queenstown with panoramic views, interesting commentary, and an onboard bar.
Just a 10 minute drive from Queenstown, Moke Lake is a beautiful scenic spot off the beaten track. The pretty lake setting is framed by mountains and is a popular spot for walking, cycling and camping.
The Moke Lake Loop Track is a popular scenic trek with the locals and loops around the lake for a walk that takes around 2 hours to complete. The lake is also a draw for fishing, and on warmer days, the temperate of the water is perfect for a dip.
Moke Lake's close proximity to Queenstown, yet secluded setting, is an appealing quality to campers. The small campsite is run by the Department of Conservation and has basic facilities. It's the views not the facilities though which campers appreciate.

Getting there:
From Queenstown, drive along the road to Glenorchy for about ten minutes before turning off on the right for the road signposted 'Moke Lake Road'. You'll then drive up a steep and windy road before you reach an unsealed gravel road. You will need to drive along the unsealed road for about 8 kilometres, passing the smaller Lake Kirpatrick, before you arrive at Moke Lake.
